The scientific electronic journal Russian Journal of Earth Sciences (RJES), published by GC RAS since 1998, undergoes major changes: new Editor-in-Chief, and the editorial board is also expanding. RJES has entered the core of Web of Science (Core Collection, ESCI) and is preparing for an expert evaluation of Scopus.

In connection with the death of Editor-in-Chief of RJES, an outstanding Russian geologist, Dr. Sc. A. F. Grachev, the Scientific Council of GC RAS proposed a new candidate for the role of the editor-in-chief of the journal, Academician A. D. Gvishiani. The Earth Sciences Department Bureau of RAS has approved this candidate in June 2017.

Academician, Dr. Sc. Aleksey Gvishiani is an expert in the field of mathematical geophysics, geomagnetism, geoinformatics and system analysis of geophysical data, the author of more than 350 scientific works, including 13 monographs and 7 author's certificates. He was awarded the Order of Friendship, medals "The 850th Anniversary of Moscow" and "50 years of the Mongolian People's Revolution" A.
