May 9, 2026. Dear colleagues!
We congratulate you on Victory Day! This sacred day reminds us of the bravery and devotion of those who forged the Great Victory – not only on the battlefields but also in laboratories, expeditions, and factories. Over the years, our organization has been led by outstanding scientists whose contribution to the defense of the country during the Great Patriotic War remains part of our professional memory.
Academician of the USSR Academy of Sciences Ivan Bardin
During the war, Academician of the USSR Academy of Sciences Ivan Bardin led the mobilization of the metallurgical industry of the Urals, supplying the front with special steels for ammunition and military equipment. Under his leadership, the largest factories were evacuated and launched, the Central Research Institute of Ferrous Metallurgy was established, and his developments laid the foundations for post-war ferrous metallurgy. For his outstanding work, he was awarded the Stalin Prize (1942) and the title of Hero of Socialist Labor (1943).
Academician of the USSR Academy of Sciences Grigory Gamburtsev
During the war years, Academician of the USSR Academy of Sciences Grigory Gamburtsev led geophysical expeditions in the Urals and Azerbaijan, actively implementing his correlation method of refracted waves for oil exploration in complex geological conditions. His work made it possible to rapidly increase the extraction of strategic raw materials needed for the front and industry. For his valiant work, he was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor and the medal "For Valiant Labor in the Great Patriotic War.
Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Sciences Vladimir Belousov
During the evacuation years, Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Sciences Vladimir Belousov combined fundamental research on deep Earth processes with practical work on the commission for geological and geophysical support of the Red Army, providing data on strategic deposits. The scientist trained personnel for post-war exploration and laid the scientific foundations for integrating geology and geophysics, which accelerated the development of resources in the West Siberian and Volga-Ural regions. His contribution to defense and science was recognized with state awards and the acknowledgment of the academic community.
The work of Academicians of the USSR Academy of Sciences Ivan Bardin, Grigory Gamburtsev, and Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Sciences Vladimir Belousov during the war years became the foundation not only of the Victory but also of post-war scientific and industrial development. Today, advancing modern geophysical research, creating digital models, and processing unique data arrays, we continue their work. Their example teaches us that scientific labor aimed at the protection and development of the Motherland is also a feat.
We wish you good health, scientific success, a peaceful sky above, and new professional heights. We thank you for your work, dedication to science, and fidelity to the traditions of the academic school.
Happy Victory Day!
Academician of the USSR Academy of Sciences Ivan Bardin.
Academician of the USSR Academy of Sciences Grigory Gamburtsev.
