Post-graduate course is open in the Geophysical Centre of RAS by the Decree ¹ 13000.17-140 of the Bureau of the Earth Sciences Department of RAS from November 24th, 2005. License ¹165977, serious A is given by the Federal Service on supervision in the sphere of education and science on May 17th, 2006.
Post-graduate studies in the Geophysical Centre of RAS are conducted in the following specialities:
25.00.10 – Geophysics, geophysical methods of the search for minerals.
25.00.35 – Geoinformatics;
Full-time post-graduate students who receive funding from the Federal Budget, are provided with the state stipends and have annual holidays for two months.
Full-time post-graduate students are deferred of military service for the period of studies, writing up and defending a thesis.
Post-graduate students can use equipment and libraries free of charge, and have the right to go on business trips, including journeys to high schools and research centres of foreign countries. Students also have the right to participate in field exploration parties to conduct works on selected research themes on equal terms with scientific, educational staff of high school institutes and scientific personnel of scientific – research organizations.
Rules of enrollment into a post-graduate course, studies and sending down from a post-graduate course, other rights, social guarantees and privileges, and also obligations of post-graduate students are established by the Law of Russian Federation and other legal acts that regulate the work of GC RAS.
Department of staff of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences establishes a number of budget places in the post-graduate studies of GC RAS.
Institute has the right to enroll citizens into a post-graduate course above those control numbers on a basis of agreements made with legal and physical bodies under condition that they cover the cost of studies.
Rules of enrollment into a full-time and part-time post-graduate course of GC RAS.
Citizens of the Russian Federation and of the countries of NIS, who have high professional education, are eligible for a full time post-graduate course on a basis of contest if they are less than 35 years old, and for a part-time post-graduate course if they are less than 45 years old. Citizens having had passed a full-time post-graduate course earlier have no right to be enrolled into a post-graduate course once again. Enrolment into a post-graduate course is conducted annually from October 15th to November 15th. An additional spring enrolment can be announced due to a decision made by the board of directors.
Application for a post-graduate course has to be written to the name of
A.D. Gvishiani, director of GC RAS, professor, associate member of RAS. The following documents should be attached to application:
- copy of a state diploma on high education with its applications;
- personal list on staff registration;
- 2 photographs;
- list of scientific publications (papers, theses of reports, etc.);
- certificate on passed exams for a candidate degree if there were any;
- copy of a labour book;
- document that verifies personality and state diploma on graduation from a High School, an applicant must provide in person.
Applicants pass an interview with a provisional scientific leader.
Applicants have to take the following competition exams:
- special discipline;
- philosophy
- a foreign language.
Results of graduate master exams on philosophy and foreign language are accepted as entry exams for a post-graduate course.

On a basis of a decision made by a selection committee, director of the institute convenes enrolment into a post-graduate course.
Rules of study in the post-graduate course of GC RAS.
Period of studies should not exceed three years in a full-time post-graduate course and four years in a part-time post-graduate course.
For the period of studies a post-graduate student is obliged to:
- complete individual plan of post-graduate training,
- pass exams for a candidate level on philosophy, foreign language and special discipline,
- complete work under a thesis and present completed thesis for a viva in order to receive appropriate resolution of the scientific committee.
