October 1, 2016. As a result of winning the competition for the best project in the field of popularization of scientific knowledge entitled "School of Young Scientists" Olga Samokhina delivered a course of lectures on "Dynamics of the Earth and natural disasters", "Global environmental problems of our time" and "Astronomy" for school children of 7-11 grades of Moscow "School № 97".

Introduction of modern geo-information technologies and advanced imaging techniques of map data to improve the technical level of the educational process helped to inform school children on the current scientific geospatial data and discoveries in the field of geoscience, as well as to create a positive image of Russian science. All children have noted better learning of the material in comparison with a standard geography lesson and successfully passed the tests related to the topics of lectures.

After the event the school administration handed a letter of greetings to O. Samokhina.

July 11, 2018. Corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, V. A. Petrov, head of the Geoinformatics Laboratory of IGEM RAS, visited GC RAS. The purpose of the visit was to participate in a working meeting in which A. Gvishiani, Director of the Geophysical Center, A. Soloviev, Deputy Director for Science, A. Rybkina, Deputy Director for Development, and researcher A. Odintsova participated.

July 6-10, 2018. Scientists of the Laboratory of Geoinformatics and Geomagnetic Studies D. V. Peregudov and M. N. Dobrovolsky took part in the joint event – the 26th Extended European Cosmic Ray Symposium and 35th Russian Cosmic Ray Conference. The event was held at the Altai State University (Barnaul, Russia).

July 2-4, 2018. Leading engineer of the Laboratory of Geoinformatics and Geomagnetic Studies of GC RAS A. Grudnev visited "Klimovskaya" observatory (Arkhangelsk region, Klimovskaya village). The main goal of the expedition is to carry out routine preventive works aimed at maintaining the working capacity of geomagnetic equipment, including a scalar magnetometer.

July 4, 2018. Two international scientific organizations - the International Council for Science (ICSU) and the International Social Science Council (ISSC) have united in a new union - the International Science Council (ISC). GC RAS represents the interests of Russia in the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG), now part of the ISC. IUGG General Secretary Alik T. Ismail-Zade was elected as the chief secretary of the newly formed Council.
